I used to work at a Korean restaurant and this came out once on a special menu– for mother’s day. This used to be the food of the royals! From what the chefs told me, there are so many different ingredients that go into the top (I believe they’re all different types of jeon, or pancake), no one will make it on a normal day. the bottom is lined with vermicelli noodles and a broth is poured over it. The middle part has those little blue jellies that you can light (I forget what they’re called) and it heats the whole thing up. Looks and sounds yummy and complicated, but I don’t remember it tasting like anything special.
Mmm… I grew up on Korean food (I love Korean pancakes!) but I’ve never heard of sinseollo before. It looks great, though.
The casserole looks so much like the steamboat we eat back in Southeast Asia. Looks delicious
This looks beatiful! I have not had much Korean food since there are not many places near me. I guess I will have to try to make some myself (I have made bulgogi, which were very popular in my house!)
noel, Jiny is right. Yellow balls are ginko nuts. I lived in Korea for 25 years, but I’ve never had Sinseollo either. I wish I had though. But I am sure the chance will come for both us one day.
Wow. That looks great.
Those yellow “balls” are roasted and peeled Ginko nuts, I’d assume…
I grew up on Korean food but I’m surprised I’ve never had this. Looks good. What are the yellow balls? The water kimchi looks yummy!
looks great for a cold day!
