King oyster mushroom

This is a picture of some king oyster mushrooms. Its Korean name is “Sae song-ee beosut”

I call this vegetable meat, because its texture is so much like meat.

At the supermarket, you can get about 4-5 king oyster mushrooms for about 3000 won. (US $ 3.20)

Sesame leaves

Sesame leaves’ Korean name is “kkaenip”, some say “Ggaenip”.

This is a picture of sesame leaves. You can use these for making wraps with meat or as a cooking ingredient.

At the supermarket, you can get 3 bunches of these (picture below) for 1000 won. (US $1.05)

I like them because they give a unique smell and taste.

Shiitake mushroom

Shiitake mushroom’s korean name is “Pyogo beosut”.
This is a picture of some shiitake mushrooms. Usually they are 1200-1500 won per 100g. (US $1.30-60)

Enoki Mushrooms 

Enoki mushrooms

Enoki mushrooms, their Korean name is “Paeng-ee beosut”. I think they are the cheapest mushrooms in Korea. You can get 3 packs of these mushrooms for 1000 won (US $1.05) at the supermarket. (Sometimes 5 packs for 1000 won.)

How to use : cut off the root system (approximately 4 cm) and wash briefly before use.

Oyster Sauce

I personally don’t like the taste of oyster sauce on its own. It tastes too artificial for me. However it makes some good dishes (like Mushrooms on rice) with other ingredients.

This is a picture of the oyster sauce I am using.

It is about 2000 won (US $2.10) for 255g, you can get premium oyster sauce for double the cost as well.
Its color is dark brown, it is quite a thick liquid and very salty on its own.

I didn’t know which brand to get, I just bought this, because it has the longest expiry date than other brands. Though apparently this (Lee Kum Kee) is one of the most popular oyster brands in the world. (I googled a bit)
