Learn how to cook Korean instant Jajangmyeon! It’s very easy! Ready in 5 minutes.

How to cook instant Jajangmyeon | MyKoreanKitchen.com

I love trying new instant food particularly when it sounds healthy. So I bought these instant Jajangmyeon to try out.

  • Name: Rice Jajangmyeon (쌀 자장면) by CJ
  • Price at Homeplus : 4,130 won (US $4.40)
  • Size: 670g for 2 servings

The unique thing about this jajangmyeon is that the noodles are made of 100% Korean rice instead of typical wheat flour. It claims that it has a nice chewy texture, because it is made of 100% rice.

Typically instant Jajangmyeon consists of noodle packs and black bean sauce packs. They are to be cooked and heated separately then combined.

Below you will find easy 4 step guides on how to cook instant Jajangmyeon. Enjoy!

How to Cook Instant Jajangmyeon

Step 1. Boil some water in a pot (enough to cover the sauce packs), when it starts to boil place the unopened jajang sauce (the red packet) into the pot. (Heat it for about 3-4 minutes.)
Or, if you have a microwave, open the jajang sauce pack and take the sauce out onto a medium sized bowl.  Microwave the sauce for 1 minute and 30 seconds (in a 700W microwave.)

Step 2 (At the same time as step 1). Have plenty of water in a second pot. When it starts to boil, add the noodles into the pot and boil them until the noodles are fully cooked (about 4 minutes on medium heat). Stir the noodles a bit so they don’t stick together.

Step 3. Drain the water and rinse the noodles in warm water (for 1-2 seconds).

Step 4. Serve the noodles in a bowl. Pour out the sauce over the noodles. (You can top it up with cooked green beans, sliced cucumber or boiled/fried egg.) Dig in!

If you have mastered instant Jajangmyeon, you might want to try real Jajangmyeon from scratch as well! Hope you give it a try soon!

  1. I made a quick dash into our local Asian market in order to try these for the first time. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized that I could not read the instructions ( I have taken one semester of a Korean language course which was not helpful for this.) You saved my first black bean noodle experience with these instructions. Thank you, so much!

  4. Hi ma lor,

I am sorry that you are having difficulty in finding instant noodles in the US. Have you tried Korean grocery stores in your town? (I guess you must have) I’ve never been to the US, so I can’t really give you local advise.

I looked up an online Korean grocery shop call Hmart, and here is the link you are looking for. It is not exactly the same brand, though I tried that one before too and it is quite good.

Also, I have a Jajangmyun recipe if you want to try from scratch. About the noodles, you can substitute with fresh udong noodles. (I think you can get this at a supermarket.)
