Steamed Pork Wrapped in Leaves (Bossam in Korean)

I went to Tofu Village – my favourite restaurant in the town where I live, last weekend. It was an impulsive decision to go there, but I don’t regret it.

We ordered something different than our usual, we had steamed pork served with radish Kimchi and leaves (lettuce, Chinese cabbage, and sesame leaves- Bossam in Korean). One thing special about this restaurant’s bossam is that the pork is cooked with some Chinese medicine and is apparently good for anemia and also cleanses your blood vessels. Its official name on the menu is Hanbang Bossam (hanbang means Chinese medicine)

This is a picture of what I had.

Sundubu Appetizers Bossam

Soup and Side dishes

From the top

  • Uncurdled Tofu (Sundubu in Korean)
  • Steamed Pork with Kimchi and Leaves (Bossam in Korean)
  • Soup and Side dishes

How to Eat : Put the lettuce on one hand and add the pork and Kimchi, garlic, chili, and ssamjang sauce (It really depends on your preference and this is how I like to eat it). Wrap the lettuce.

The plate of the pork was for 2-3 people, I shared with my husband, it was 15,000 won (US $15.80). I also ordered 2 bowls of rice – 2,000 won (US 2.10), that how I got the soup I think. So the soup and side dishes come with the rice, not the pork.

Here is another article about bossam from Zenkimchi -Korean food journal.
